A Guide to Life Skills

Life Skills are the abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life, according to the definition of the World Health Organization.

The main components of life skills are given below.

The first component is critical thinking skills or decision making skills. This also includes problem solving skills and information gathering skills. The future consequences of their present action and the actions of others are evaluated by the individual through skills he has developed. They also need to be able to determine alternative solutions and to analyze the influence of their own values and the value of those around them.

The interpersonal or communication skills include verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, and the ability to express feelings and give feedback. The individual also learns to deal with anger, grief, and anxiety and he learns to cope with loss or trauma. The key skills are stress and time management and also positive thinking and relaxation techniques.
